Pain in the Back and Other Parts of The Body from Fibromyalgia

(Back pain) can be a symptom of the medical condition fibromyalgia. Having back pain is not a very comfortable feeling. The problem inhibits people to function normally in daily activities.

However, experiencing  back pain does not necessarily mean that the problem is directly related to fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a much more serious health issue. An article on SpineNation.com offers an explanation of what fibromyalgia is and how it affects the  body.

What is Fibromyalgia?

While fibromyalgia is difficult to diagnose, it is not a typical back pain problem. The medical condition is described as pain that does not only affect the back but also several areas in the body. Fibromyalgia is different from other conditions that cause (back pain) because fibromyalgia occurs throughout the body. The medical condition also causes fatigue, moods, sleep problems and memory issues.

Causes of Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia could be traced back to an oversensitive nervous system, according to Michael Hilderbrand, a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and owner of M3 Physio in Northeast Lousiana.

The article states that laboratory studies have shown that people with fibromyalgia perceive greater levels of pain with the same stimuli than people who don’t have it. Heat, cold, physical pressure and electrical stimulation are  those things.

Another possible cause of the medical condition has something to do with genetics. A person with a family member that has fibromyalgia has risk factors for the condition. Furthermore, fibromyalgia is four times more prevalent in women than in men.
