Even though back pain can occur without any underlying conditions, there are many diseases that do cause back pain. If you’ve been diagnosed with any of these conditions and would like a second opinion or if you are in search of additional treatment options, call Spine Center of Texas today!

Herniated Disk

This is a condition that occurs when the soft center of a spinal disk pushes between spinal bones. Over 3 million cases are reported in the United States each year. After lab imaging is performed, a doctor is able to diagnose and treat this condition. This condition sometimes has no symptoms at all, but in more serious cases it can cause pain, numbness, and/or weakness in the limbs.

Sciatica

Sciatica is defined as pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve. This pain often is carried down through the legs, buttock, or lower back. This condition is usually triggered by inflammation or pinching of nerves in the lower back. Sciatica is often linked with herniated or slipped disks, Degenerative Disk Disease, Spondylolisthesis, Osteoarthritis, Tumors in the lumbar spinal canal, or even trauma injury to the lumbar spine or sciatic nerve.

Spinal Stenosis

Spinal Stenosis most commonly occurs in the neck and lower back. It involves the narrowing of the spinal canal and is often caused by age related wear and tear. The United States has over 200,000 cases per year. This chronic condition can last for years or even a lifetime. Besides back pain, Spinal Stenosis symptoms often include numbness, muscle weakness, and trouble with bladder control.
